Hey everyone. Sorry it has been so long since I have posted on here(2 weeks whaaaaat?). So I am finished with Class 3 of AM and last night I had my first Q&A for Class 4. My mentor is Ray Chase. You can check out his website here: http://www.raymation.net He is a very nice guy. I look forward to this term. It’s interesting that we will only doing two assignments this term. That means I have to make it something that will keep my interest for more than 3 weeks now :) .

I’ve joined a Rugby Club. Its the Ventura County Rugby Club. It’s fun. If you live in Ventura County,  come check it out. We practice at the Thousand Oaks Recreation Fields, which are behind Thousand Oaks High School. Go ahead and check out http://www.venturacountyrugbyclub.com. There are directions and such if you need them.

Lastly, check this bad boy out. There was this cool JavaScript tool that you could take your rendered scenes and make rotatable interactive things on your website. Because I am not commericial, I can post it below. It’s a Burger you can rotate! I think it’s awesome. Check out www.finnrudolph.de/JavaScriptObject.

Also, Check out CINEVERSITY Live. It can be found at http://www.Cineversity.com/live we are doing them bi-Monthly. So there’s one going on right now! Check it out. I’ll be in there sort of moderating. I’ve had about 7 tutorials go live in the last 2 weeks. I should lighten up, aye? haha. Cheers everyone.

So what’s new. My Dad had shoulder surgery. That seems to have gone well. It sucks for him. He can’t really do anything. It’s really grounded him. That has left a lot of chores to be done at home which I must do. It means I get 10 bucks an hour, but quite frankly, I hate gardening, but then again I need the money so oh well. Which reminds me, I’m looking to maybe get into some Freelance 3D work on the side for some extra income. If any of you reading this have some work, let me know. That would be awesome.

Sorry for the cheap plug. Anyway, why was today a good end to an otherwise dull day? Well, I got my final eCritique for the term. Tomorrow is my last Q&A. I got great feedback from my Mentor, Morgan. I think my last shot was the best, so does Andy, so does Morgan, so it’s very nice to feel lke you are progressing forward. There were very few crits for the shot, really mostly suggestions which is actually pretty sweet because I didn’t have to do much between last week and this week. I got it to a nearly finished piece a week early, yayyy. It’s also rewarding to see people chuckling when they see the shot, it means I’ve probably done my job. When you have your Mentor critiquing a piece of your work, and then he let’s it finish playng and he laughs, even when he’s seen it a few times, that’s a good thing.

I’ve also managed to get my best GPA out of all 3 Classes this class, which is funny because I started out so poorly. This class also had my lowest grade this far(a C), so it’s interesting to see my grades go back up when I made the decision to REALLY focus on AM only and stop doing painting and art for the time being. Anyway, so now I need to go back and tidy up a few things on the AnimJam, particularly in the first 2 shots to make them seemless. Below is the rough cut of my AnimJam for Class 3:

It’s been a week. A busy week actually. It’s pretty common for a new Release. There’s been a lot of bitching and bickering about price. Some valid points, but sadly, the discussion deteriorated into a lot of squabbling. However, price aside, the overall opinion about the release has been incredibly positive which I am surprised about. Everyone is pumped about Render Instances and MoDynamics. People are hooked on the .5 aspect of it. Rick told me best, people need to remember that R11 is just a .5 upgrade(from 10.5). R11.5 is just a .5 upgrade. One of the most robust upgrades I’ve seen(since 9.5). So…yeah. Either buy it or don’t.

So, what else is new. It appears there is an official Rugby Club for Ventura County. We are looking to figure out a Mascot and some colors. I’m kind of stoked on it actually. It should be fun. Maybe ill get to play a different position. Ooooooh. Kind of excited for it all. We shall see what happens.

On the downside, I went to the dentist. I hadn’t been in 4 years. I am almost getting gingevitis and that blooooows. It required a “replaning” of my teeth which is essentually just scraping the shit out of your teeth and up into your gums a little bit. It’s like a gnarlier cleaning. To the point where if needed, you can get some novacaine. I didn’t need it thankfully, and it was ok. It’s a pricey produre though. So Epic fail on my part for not taking care of my mouth. I am changing that right now though. Between Kai, Josiah, and Paul’s root canal horror stories, and general lack of funds to even pay for the dental shit, I’m getting them very clean now. I also have 2 cavities, so the grand total for everything will be about 1300 dollars. Thus delaying my ability to move out for a while longer now. Damnit. I hate how tight money is. I don’t like spending so much money. It sucks. I’m working on it.

I also found out I have High Blood Pressure. Damnit all. Oh well, now I have a good reason to lose 20 pounds. I bought some new canvases. Smaller ones to sketch out on them with oils. Looking forward to messing around with them after this Class 3 is over.

It’s 5AM, not really sure WHY I’m awake. MAXON just released it’s new upgrade of 11.5 two hours ago(noonish Germany Time). I’ve been working with 11.5 as a beta tester for a while now and it’s a solid release. I’ve actually been using it for all of my AM assignments since…about Week 5 I think, so it’s stable.

Some of the new features include:

Bucket Rendering
Render Instances
Mograph Dynamics(uses Bullet Engine)
New Picture Viewer(RAM player…I’ll never go back to R11 without this)
Motion 3D Support and enahnced AE Exchange

There’s a lot more, but I’t 5:15AM and I’m sleepy. It’s a good release, check out the press release: http://www.maxon.net/en/news/singleview-default/article/maxon-unveils-cinema-4d-release-115-professional-3d-graphics-just-got-easier-2.html

MAXON also offers a new “edition” and “extension” kit, very similar to the Architecture and Engineering versions. There is now the Broadcast Edition which is aimed at people in the Broadcast field(who woulda thought?) Check the Press Release on that:  http://www.maxon.net/en/news/singleview-default/article/maxon-continues-role-as-3d-motion-graphics-leader-with-introduction-of-cinema-4d-broadcast-edition.html

Need some more information about R11.5? Go to www.cineversity.com, we have been working on a lot of videos that present a lot of the new features in this version. Including a few done by yours truly(to view them you need to sign up for a free account):
